These modules offer an introduction for people who want to know more about deafness and hearing loss. It’s also a good module if you have friends or family who might appreciate you increasing your understanding of their experience of hearing loss as well as learning about the richness of Deaf culture and sign language. This module is also helpful if you are an NDIS worker, teacher, or health professional who is new to working in this area.
This module focuses on the theory and practice of communication adjustments that are necessary to bridge the hearing and deaf worlds. This module is important if you are engaging with Deaf and hard-of-hearing people from time to time, and you want to be able to work with a sign language interpreter or be skilled in accessible communication strategies. If you work for Centrelink, NDIS services delivery, Policing, or in Medical Receptions, the suite of modules 1, 2 and 3 will be ideally suited to your context.
These modules are specifically for Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Medical, Allied Health professionals and Educators who are working with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people. There is an emphasis in these modules on recognising systemic barriers and mental health implications.
